Vance Nevada didn’t care much for Fort McMurray when he entered the wrestling ring on Saturday night. After dismissing the “filthy oil” of Fort McMurray on behalf of “my good friend Justin,” there was plenty plenty of boos and trash talking from the crowd.
But dozens of people at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre cheered and screamed with joy as hometown wrestler “Buckshot” Bobby Brake entered the ring and defeated Nevada.

The wrestling event, hosted by Monster Pro Wrestling, is the first time in more than 20 years that independent pro wrestling has been in Fort McMurray.
Local resident Kevin Garbuio brought 13 friends to the event. When talking about his love for professional wrestling, he compared the sport to Shakespeare.
“This was one of the best events I’ve ever seen in Fort McMurray,” said Garbuio.
MPW plans to return in January and organizers are hoping for an even larger and rowdier crowd to show up for a bigger wrestling event.
